Avinash seems strangely satisfied with his new surroundings. As soon as his parents are gone, he rubs his knuckles against Devika's head. Devika is appalled by the new house and, for two seconds, contemplates suicide. She wishes that they had left Avinash back at the old house. Artee looks on as her brother bullies her sister and feels an odd sense of jealousy. She looks at the dull grey carpet and breathes in a sigh. "Ah... a place to start new," she thinks.
Devika retreats to the toilet to do some "thinking time". She again fantasizes about suicide, about drowning herself in the bathtub but then slaps herself and mutters, "Stupid! Suicide is for the weak!" She tries to collect her emotions.
For some reason, she recalls a time in primary school when she gave a stray dog her box lunch. She tells herself that she has no choice but to adapt to her new environment. She decides to watch T.V. She flips the channel to MTV and grumbles, "Phony garbage..." before turning it to "Discovery Channel". Mythbusters is on!
As she watches the episode on whether elephants are really afraid of mice or not, she feels the walls closing in on her. She tries to listen to the nonsensical conversation between her siblings in the background but can't hear them. Are they talking about her? Are they saying, "Why dat gyul have to be so weird, dread?" She doesn't care. They can say what they want.
Artee struts about the house in her pum-pum shorts with her cellphone in hand. She is talking to her friend 'Stacy' about the new house. Devika overhears sexual words in the conversation. She shakes her head in disgust. Then suddenly, a man appears behind her.
It's her father! And he's changed the channel to a local TV station to watch blasted cricket highlights! "I thought you went PriceSmart!" Devika exclaims.
"Nah, the car givin a lil trouble," Lalchand replies, "Ah go fix it jes now. And we guh go."
"I was watching Discovery Channel!" Devika says.
"Well, I watching cricket highlights! Wham!" Lalchand exclaims.
Devika says she feels as if she is in jail.
