Episode 29: Finally

A week later, the Rooplal household has been a mess. With Shobha gone off on her sexcapades and Lalchand drunk most of the time, the children are the ones trying to pick up the pieces. Avinash is hardly ever home anymore. Artee gets a part-time job as a data entry clerk at her school to avoid putting strain on the family budget. And Devika has fallen into a deep depression. She is as lonely as ever.

And on a bleak Saturday afternoon, she contemplates suicide by drowning. She goes to the park and stares down at her reflection in the ravine...

A young man notices her. He notices her sad expression. Then he notices that familiar stance, with the knees bent slightly... that semi-awkward gait. Could it be? He approaches her.

She turns to him. And they notice each other right way!

As soon as she notices him, she latches onto him without even thinking. All the sad thoughts dissolve. Her heart beats fast. Ricky smiles but is strangely uncomfortable in the situation. He senses that something is still wrong. But he ignores it and reciprocates the hug.

They sit on a bench and talk all the way into the night. They are both very nervous - Devika in particular - and talk about random topics such as aliens and favourite childhood foods. The conversation eventually turns to Devika's home situation and Ricky is blindsided and enthralled by her honesty.

He thinks for a while and makes sure that what he is going to do is out of total honesty also, and not out of pity. Then he does it.
